My Dream in the Year of the Tiger

"2010 is our year!"

"2010 is our year! Nyaa~!"

You got me right. Tigers are facing extinction, unless we do something about it. Or perhaps, unless we stop doing certain things… Tiger liver for dinner, anyone? You get the picture. Now don’t get me wrong- I like the big orange fuzz-balls as much as the next person on the street, but I’m not joining PETA anytime soon. While we’re on the subject, I had better mention that although its namesake isn’t doing very well in the survival department, Tiger Beer is still safe in many a beer-guzzler’s refrigerator… Continue reading My Dream in the Year of the Tiger

flymas.mobi: As Easy as Cooking Instant Ramen

"This Photo is Proudly Stolen from a Free Source"

I know, I know… you’re probably thinking, “What! Yet another post about a contest?” Bear with me here, people. If in the previous post I had you reading an unbearably long post (if you consider 1000 or so words long), worry not. This post will be so short that I won’t even bother with using the ‘Read More’  function, hehe. Post-completion edit: Oops. Not possible today, apparently;) Continue reading flymas.mobi: As Easy as Cooking Instant Ramen

Why I Like It Longer. No, Seriously...

"Stealing a chocolate bar requires little effort, but much planning"

I’m bored. I need something to amuse me, especially while I’m on the run, or in between classes. It would be nice to be able to surf the web. Or play some games. Maybe even watch a movie.

Then again, to do all that satisfactorily, I’d need a laptop computer, a game console, and a home theatre system. Sheesh. I’d also need a Hummer to carry all of it as I head to college. Continue reading Why I Like It Longer. No, Seriously…

Spice and Wolf II: Futures Trading, Medieval Politics, and Inter-Species Courtship

Spice and Wolf II

Huh. I just realized that I never made a post on the first season of Spice and Wolf- and here I am jumping into a review of its second season. Ah well. Speed review of season one, people? Here goes:

Craft Lawrence, white-haired but no geezer, is a travelling merchant whose dream is to make it big and have a shop of his own. One day, while camping somewhere between towns, he wakes up to find a naked girl in the back of his cart. Her nudity doesn’t hold his attention for long, though- she has a tail and animal ears. So begins Lawrence’s journey with Horo the wolf-goddess… Bah. That felt like something an underpaid bit-column newspaper writer would mash out. That was how I meant it to be though, so I guess I shouldn’t be complaining, haha. Continue reading Spice and Wolf II: Futures Trading, Medieval Politics, and Inter-Species Courtship

European Union Film Festival 2009

:w:for lack of a better picture:w:

I’ve been to five Japanese film festivals before, but this one is my first. That’s not really surprising as it’s the first time they’re having it here, but there has been a French Film Festival in the past, which I missed. As you can see from the title, this is yet another late post- I’ve got quite a large backlog to clear. Both memory and diary are a little sketchy, so this might be a wee bit difficult. Be nice to tigers this year, you hear me?

"Happy new year!" "Rawr!"

Judging from all the pictures floating around ‘image boards’ like Danbooru, 2010 is the year of the tiger- hence the title. 2010 already? Sigh. Say, did the tiger just blink? Oh wait, it’s just me scrolling down the page.

The Japanese have this old superstition concerning the first dream of the new year- they say that it is extremely good luck to dream of Mount Fuji, a hawk, and… an eggplant, for who knows what reason. Oh. Wiki says that there is a reason. I won’t bother elaborating. Continue reading Be nice to tigers this year, you hear me?

Christmas '09: The Broken Santa Club

Harima Claus

Well, here I am. A little late, but better late than never- which is what happened last year, by the way. Merry Christmas! Not that I celebrate it. I don’t even celebrate my own birthday, after all. My real reason for posting this is the picture above- I copied it out of the School Rumble Treasure File- a sort of official guide to the series, and needed an excuse to post it. Harima as Santa- why would I post that on a day like, say, Valentines, or New Years Eve? It had to be Christmas. Last year, I forgot to post it, and by the time I noticed, it was way too late. It’s now 1.23 am on the 26th of December, but frankly, I don’t care anymore. So I hope you had a merry Christmas! Mine was positively crappy, but that’s another story. Which I’m not going to tell, so don’t ask.

Confessions of an alleged Gothic Lolita

a little too tight...

"it's a little too tight..."

Well, quite a bit has happened since my last post, hasn’t it? Some of you might have been greeted by a snow white screen with some random gibberish on it- good riddance. It all stated when I noticed that my links, categories, and tags had vanished- after trawling the net for guidance, I came across some seemingly wise advice- to reinstall Wordpress. ‘Huh, yeah, why didn’t I think of that? Sounds simple enough- no need for any meddling with coding and all that…’ I shouldn’t have rushed, really. Logged into my control panel and deleted all my .PHP files, except for wp-config, and then proceeded to replace the deleted files with fresh copies. ANBU and their dietary habits

Brick-man, irritating kid, and daft dog.

Brick-man, irritating kid, and daft dog.

Today’s outing was a sort of reunion-farewell for a friend who’d just returned from India, where she’s studying dentistry. We’d decided on Times Square (why does everyone feel the need to recreate that noisy intersection in their home country?) as our meeting place, around 2pm, after which we’d have lunch. District 9: How to raise a prawn and cuss like South Africans

But you are.

But you are.

Author’s preface: As should be obvious from the movie poster above, this is a really, really late post.  Some brief announcements: as some of you might have noticed, I’ve just added an advert to the left sidebar. I hope you don’t find it too obtrusive. It’s position might move around in the days to come, though. The second announcement: an unexpected benefit of using this theme (Atahualpa) is how nice the comments look. I could gush on and on about how much I like the theme, but I’ll just limit myself to saying how gorgeous the super-long comments look now… and yeah, no more nested comments, which is why comments on older posts might seem a little messed up. I’ll fix them if I get the time, or if I’m ever able to make sense of the whole mess. Now, on with the post:

I spent three months as a hikikomori (Shut-in) – is what I’d like to say. Truth is, it’s not that easy a thing to do. I spent most of that time within the confines of my home, but I did go out now and then- mostly for lunch or dinner with the family, things like that. A failure as a hikikomori, although that’s actually a good thing. Continue reading District 9: How to raise a prawn and cuss like South Africans
