 'Smile!'
Um, well, there you have it. It’s finally arrived- the post detailing what seems to be our yearly pilgrimage to the nearest naturally cold spot in the country, Genting Highlands, famous for having the only casino in the country, which in any case, might soon face a dearth of money-seeking pilgrims when the shiny new Singaporean casinos open their doors. Or is it casino? Ah, small matter.

 :w:for lack of a better picture:w:
I’ve been to five Japanese film festivals before, but this one is my first. That’s not really surprising as it’s the first time they’re having it here, but there has been a French Film Festival in the past, which I missed. As you can see from the title, this is yet another late post- I’ve got quite a large backlog to clear. Both memory and diary are a little sketchy, so this might be a wee bit difficult. Continue reading European Union Film Festival 2009
Brick-man, irritating kid, and daft dog.
Today’s outing was a sort of reunion-farewell for a friend who’d just returned from India, where she’s studying dentistry. We’d decided on Times Square (why does everyone feel the need to recreate that noisy intersection in their home country?) as our meeting place, around 2pm, after which we’d have lunch. But you are.
Author’s preface: As should be obvious from the movie poster above, this is a really, really late post. Some brief announcements: as some of you might have noticed, I’ve just added an advert to the left sidebar. I hope you don’t find it too obtrusive. It’s position might move around in the days to come, though. The second announcement: an unexpected benefit of using this theme (Atahualpa) is how nice the comments look. I could gush on and on about how much I like the theme, but I’ll just limit myself to saying how gorgeous the super-long comments look now… and yeah, no more nested comments, which is why comments on older posts might seem a little messed up. I’ll fix them if I get the time, or if I’m ever able to make sense of the whole mess. Now, on with the post:
I spent three months as a hikikomori (Shut-in) – is what I’d like to say. Truth is, it’s not that easy a thing to do. I spent most of that time within the confines of my home, but I did go out now and then- mostly for lunch or dinner with the family, things like that. A failure as a hikikomori, although that’s actually a good thing. Continue reading District 9: How to raise a prawn and cuss like South Africans
 Figures on Display
Um, well. Here’s a convention report. This is probably the first time I’m doing this. For some reason all the photos turned out a little blurry, and I’m still a little mad about it. The main highlight of the event was a concert by Chihara Minori (????), a seiyuu most famous for her role as ‘Keanu-Reeves-is-a-baby-next-to-me-Nagato-Yuki‘. No, I didn’t go for it, because the tickets cost a bomb, and I’m rather low on gunpowder at the moment. Continue reading DaiCon ’09: Not so ‘Dai’(大) after all
おくりびと / Departures
Before I begin with the review, a little rant. I’ve just signed up for a free site on this place called ‘freei.me’, and tried to install WordPress on it- well, if ‘tried’ covers clicking all here and there whilst reading reams of incomprehensible technobabble and eventually leaving the account to [...]
The Japanese Film Festival 2009 just ended today. This time it focused on dramas, and even had a big name in Departures (おくりびと), the winner of the Best Foreign Film prize in the 81st Academy Awards. I’ve attended the festival since it’s inception back in 2004. In that year, I think I watched just [...]
First things first: I’d really love to have post summaries, with a ‘read more’ option for every post, but I just can’t seem to find it. Guess I’ll just throw a link to the photo albums for photo-heavy posts like this one. Ah well. Oh, and I’ll be stuck on an island from Monday [...]
The very much delayed continuation of my previous CNY post. The events of the first part of this post took part on the 30th of January. A reunion of sorts with some friends from high school.
Went to fetch MC Wing from his condo, and then Geoff. Too lazy to drive up to his [...]
Note: Before we go any further, all this took place on the 22nd of May- it’s dated before the previous post. Blame my frazzled brain for this.
I actually skipped class for this one. Ming had come back from India (Where she’s studying Dentistry) sometime late February, but I was just too caught up [...]
